Smith: Republicans Will Not Co-Sign a Loan for the Democrats’ Radical Agenda

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed a short-term increase to the debt limit:

“Washington Democrats already enacted nearly $2 trillion in spending this year. They now want another $4.3 trillion and counting, and they see raising the debt limit as a way to empower that radical agenda. Some Democrats have even suggested abolishing the debt limit so it no longer gets in the way of their spending.

“Ever since 1985, increases to the debt limit have often been paired with spending controls. Just this week, the White House confirmed there is $480 billion in unobligated Biden Bailout Dollars just sitting there from March. If Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling by $480 billion, maybe returning that same amount to American taxpayers would be a good start.

“The truth is, working families are being crushed by the crises created by the Biden Administration. Republicans will not co-sign a loan for an agenda that only makes them worse.”
