Smith Slams Biden's Costly Bypass of Congress to Expand Obamacare

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Budget Committee Republican Leader Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after the Biden Administration announced a new regulation to expand government subsidized health care under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without Congressional authorization – addressing a provision within the ACA that Democrats call a “glitch” and feel hampers their efforts to enroll more Americans in Washington-dictated health care plans:

“Today’s announcement is just the latest example of the Democrat Party’s ongoing, creeping attempt to make Americans more dependent on government-controlled health care – in this case through executive fiat. This new regulation will spread the high costs of Obamacare to millions more Americans, as well as taxpayers who will be forced to foot a $45 billion bill over the next ten years, according to the Congressional Budget Office. That’s $45 billion in spending that was not debated by Congress and will simply be swept under the rug by Washington bureaucrats. If Democrats want to double down on their failed health care law, they should have the courage to debate it and vote on it instead of asking the President for political cover.”
